Madhabpur, Oct 13 (V7N) – A devastating road accident occurred on the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway in Shahpur Haritola area under Noapara Union of Madhabpur Upazila, Habiganj, early Monday around 1 a.m. A Sylhet-bound passenger bus of Unique Paribahan, traveling from Dhaka, lost control and overturned into a roadside ditch.

According to local sources, between 30 and 35 passengers sustained serious injuries in the crash. Nearby residents rushed to the scene and immediately began rescue efforts, transporting the injured to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was speeding excessively. As it reached the Shahpur Haritola area, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the highway and overturn. The sudden crash triggered panic among passengers, with cries for help echoing throughout the area.

Upon receiving the report, teams from Madhabpur Police Station and the Highway Police quickly arrived at the location to assist in the rescue operation and manage traffic flow.

Local residents have expressed frustration over the recurring accidents along the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway, describing it as a “death trap.” They alleged that despite frequent crashes, authorities have yet to take effective measures to ensure road safety.

Sub-Inspector Sanjay of the Highway Police stated that the overturned bus has been recovered and normal traffic movement has resumed along the highway.

Preliminary reports suggest that reckless driving and high speed were the primary causes of the accident. Police said an investigation is underway to determine further details and possible negligence.
