Dhaka, Aug 22 (V7N) – Three members of a family were severely burned after a house fire, triggered by an electricity transformer explosion, in the Gandaria area of the capital early Thursday morning. The victims are currently receiving treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

The incident occurred around 2:00 am at a house on Haricharan Road. The victims have been identified as Moslem Uddin (65), his wife Salma Begum (50), and their son Mejbah Uddin (28).

Relatives said the family lived on the second floor, adjacent to an electricity transformer. An explosion in the transformer caused the fire, which quickly spread through the house. The family was rescued and admitted to the Burn Institute later in the morning.

Dr. Sultan Mahmud Sikder, Acting Resident Surgeon at the Burn Institute’s Emergency Department, said Moslem Uddin suffered burns over 90 percent of his body, Salma Begum over 55 percent, and Mejbah Uddin over 100 percent. All three have airway burns and are in critical condition.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the transformer explosion.
