Tehran, Sep 07 (V7N)- Iran has warned that any further attack on the country will trigger a faster, tougher and more painful response, Reuters reported, citing a senior Iranian official.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued the warning on Sunday amid renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington. He said the United States should understand that the “rules of the game have changed” and that any attack on Iran's interests and security would face a stronger response.
The warning comes as US sanctions continue to put pressure on Iran's economy. Tehran has vowed to intensify efforts to counter the sanctions as the six-month conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel remains deadlocked.
An initial ceasefire reached in June has collapsed, while retaliatory attacks resumed after a pause in military operations for much of August.
Meanwhile, the US Central Command said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy vessels on Saturday. The United States subsequently attacked three Iranian oil tankers, according to the command.
Iran has also announced plans to establish a new controlled zone outside the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian state media, Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said on Sunday that the zone would cover several areas of the Gulf and would be declared in the coming days.
He said vessels entering the newly designated zone could be placed on a sanctions list, although Iranian authorities have so far provided limited details about the proposed measures.
The latest developments have heightened concerns over further escalation in the strategically vital Gulf region and around the Strait of Hormuz.
