Washington, Sep 03 (V7N)- US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington is fully prepared to launch another major attack on Iran at any time following a massive US military bombing campaign against the country.
Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House on Wednesday (September 2).
Referring to recent US airstrikes on military targets in Iran, Trump said the attacks had caused significant destruction and warned that Washington could launch another offensive whenever it chooses.
“Last night we destroyed more than their radar system. It was a very powerful and devastating attack. We are fully prepared to launch another major attack on Iran at any time and any place we want,” he said.
Amid the ongoing conflict with Iran, Trump has also proposed renaming the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, claiming that the waterway is now under US control.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Now that it is fully under US control, shouldn't we rename the Strait of Hormuz the Trump Strait?” He added that it would be “hotter than ever, just like America.”
The White House later shared a revised map of the Gulf region on social media in which the international waterway was labeled the “Trump Strait.”
Trump had earlier sought to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” after beginning his second term. He also proposed renaming Lake Ontario, which borders Canada, as “Lake America.”
Trump is now facing growing political pressure at home over the six-month-long conflict with Iran and rising oil prices. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route through which about one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes.
