Kolkata, Aug 30 (V7N)- Kolkata Police has filed an FIR against former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Mamata Banerjee over alleged violations of conditions imposed by the High Court during a foundation day event of the party’s student wing.
NDTV reported the development on Saturday (August 29).
The case was registered at Hastings Police Station in connection with the foundation anniversary program of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). Organizers of the event have also been named in the FIR under several sections of Indian law.
According to police, the High Court had permitted the program on Cathedral Road from noon to 3 pm, subject to several conditions. One flank of the road was supposed to remain open to traffic.
However, police alleged that both flanks of the road were blocked and that the program continued beyond the court-approved time.
Authorities further alleged that after Mamata Banerjee's speech and gestures at the gathering, supporters removed police barricades and became involved in a confrontation with law enforcement personnel. Police said the incident also disrupted traffic on Cathedral Road.
West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari had earlier criticized the alleged violation of the court's order and called for an FIR to be filed against the former chief minister.
Meanwhile, another Trinamool Chhatra Parishad faction led by rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee held a separate meeting at Rani Rashmoni Avenue near Dharmatala in Kolkata.
