Moscow, Aug 29 (V7N)- Russia has successfully tested a mobile solid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the northwestern Arkhangelsk region.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Friday (August 28) that a mobile launcher belonging to the Strategic Missile Forces was deployed to a remote area before the missile was launched.
The missile traveled approximately 6,700 kilometers before reaching the Kura test range on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East.
Video released by the Russian Defense Ministry showed the missile being launched from a forested area. According to the ministry, the test was conducted to verify the tactical, technical and flight capabilities of the missile system.
The ministry claimed that all objectives of the test were successfully completed and that the missile followed its designated trajectory.
Russia did not disclose the specific missile model used in the test. However, the RS-24 Yars missile has previously been tested from Plesetsk to the Kura range, including during missile force exercises in May.
The latest test comes less than a week after unverified reports claimed that a Ukrainian drone had targeted Plesetsk, Russia’s only military spaceport.
The test comes amid heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine and continued international attention on Moscow’s strategic missile capabilities.
