Tripoli, Aug 28 (V7N)- At least 37 Sudanese migrants have died while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Greece in search of safety from the ongoing war in Sudan.
The Anadolu Agency reported the information on Friday (August 28), citing a statement from a rescue and assistance committee.
According to the statement, women and children were among those who died. The migrants came from various parts of Sudan, including El Fasher, El Geneina, Nyala, Gedaref, East Nile and Babanusa.
The committee said the victims had fled their homes in search of safety and described the incident as part of the wider humanitarian tragedy facing civilians affected by the war in Sudan.
The statement also identified all 37 victims by name. Several children were among the deceased, including a seven-month-old infant and children aged 3, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 16.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by people fleeing conflict zones through irregular and perilous migration routes across the Mediterranean.
