New York, Aug 27 (V7N) — A dua and mahfil were held in Jamaica, New York, with due religious solemnity and reverence to mark Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH), the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The programme was organised by the Riazul Jannah Islamic Centre in South Jamaica, New York, after Maghrib prayers on Wednesday (Aug 26). A large number of devout Muslims from surrounding areas attended the event.
Hafez Maulana Shafiqul Islam, Imam of the Riazul Jannah Islamic Centre, presided over the programme. Dr Md Amdadul Haque, an associate professor at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet, Bangladesh, delivered the keynote address.
In his speech, Dr Haque highlighted the significance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi and discussed the birth, life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in detail. He also spoke about the lives of other prophets and messengers, the signs of Allah, and various aspects and teachings of the Holy Quran.
Dr Haque said Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent as a mercy and messenger of peace for all humanity. His life and teachings embody the values of justice, equality, brotherhood, tolerance and humanity. He said there is no alternative to following the Prophet’s teachings to eliminate hatred, hostility and division from society.
Dr Haque further said the teachings of Eid-e-Miladunnabi should not remain confined to religious observances alone. The Sunnah and ideals of the Prophet (PBUH) should be practised in personal, family and social life. He also urged the younger generation to learn about the life and character of the Prophet (PBUH) and shape their lives according to his teachings.
Following the discussion, Milad, Qiyam and recitation of Durood Sharif were performed. A special dua was then offered seeking peace, welfare and prosperity for the entire Muslim Ummah.
Gias Uddin Chowdhury, president of the mosque committee, along with other committee members and local dignitaries, was present at the programme.
The event concluded with the performance of Isha prayers and distribution of Tabarruk among the worshippers.
