Washington, Jun 14 (V7N) – A preliminary historic peace agreement between the United States and Iran could be signed as early as Sunday, potentially ending months of tensions and conflict between the two longtime rivals. The development was announced by US President Donald Trump in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

President Trump said the agreement is scheduled to be signed on June 14 and that the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz would be reopened to all international shipping immediately afterward. He described the proposed deal as a major step toward regional stability and claimed that relations between Washington and Tehran are currently stronger than under any previous US administration. Trump also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Middle Eastern nations, including Iran, while warning that the United States remains prepared to pursue alternative measures if negotiations fail.

The announcement comes amid intensive diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated in a post on X that both countries have agreed on a sustainable peace framework and that preparations are underway for an electronic signing of the agreement within the next 24 hours.

According to draft details reported by international media, the framework could include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and future negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. The waterway is considered one of the world's most important energy transit routes, carrying a significant portion of global oil shipments.

However, Tehran has adopted a more cautious tone regarding the timeline. Iranian officials said the signing of the agreement on Sunday is not yet guaranteed and that discussions on several outstanding issues are continuing. Iran's Foreign Ministry indicated that while progress has been made, no final decision has been announced.

The differing statements from Washington and Tehran have created uncertainty over the exact timing of the agreement, although both sides have acknowledged that negotiations are at an advanced stage. Diplomatic observers say a successful deal could mark one of the most significant geopolitical developments in the Middle East in recent years.
