Kolkata, May 23 (V7N) – Marco Rubio has arrived in India on a four-day official visit, landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday (May 23) morning along with his wife.
During his visit from May 23 to May 26, Rubio is scheduled to travel to New Delhi after brief engagements in Kolkata, including visits to Mother Teresa House and a local NGO-run children’s home.
In New Delhi, he is expected to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other senior officials.
The visit comes at a time when India is reportedly facing energy supply pressures due to global disruptions linked to the Iran conflict. Analysts suggest discussions may include potential US energy exports, particularly oil and liquefied natural gas, though concerns remain in India over higher import costs.
Rubio is also expected to attend the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, which includes representatives from the United States, India, Japan, and Australia.
The meeting will focus on regional security, the ongoing West Asia crisis, supply chain stability, and efforts to reduce the $58 billion trade imbalance between India and the United States. The session will be chaired by India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and is seen as a key diplomatic engagement during Rubio’s first visit to India.
