New Delhi, May 22 (V7N) – A satirical online movement known as the “Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)” has triggered widespread discussion in India’s political and social media circles after rapidly gaining millions of followers on Instagram within days.
According to a report by Hindustan Times published on Thursday (May 21), the parody platform has reportedly amassed over 12 million followers on Instagram in just four days, surpassing the official follower count of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which stands at around 8.7 million.
The movement, described as a meme-based protest, claims to represent the “voice of the unemployed and frustrated youth.” It reportedly emerged following a controversial remark attributed to a senior judicial figure, which sparked strong backlash on social media platforms.
What began as internet satire quickly evolved into a broader digital trend, with users across India engaging in posts, memes, and discussions criticizing unemployment, inflation, and governance issues.
Several opposition-linked figures and public personalities have reportedly engaged with or commented on the trend, amplifying its reach across platforms such as Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
The so-called CJP “manifesto,” shared online in humorous format, includes demands such as stricter action against political defectors, reforms in electoral accountability, stronger media regulation against misinformation, and greater representation for women in governance.
While the movement remains entirely satirical in nature, analysts say it reflects growing youth frustration and the increasing influence of meme culture in shaping political conversations in India’s digital space.
