Beijing, May 15 (V7N) – The second round of bilateral meetings between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies, the United States and China, began in Beijing on Friday (May 15) morning local time.
Chinese President Xi Jinping formally welcomed US President Donald Trump at Beijing’s Zhongnanhai leadership compound under tight security arrangements.
Only a limited number of journalists were allowed access to the high-level meeting. The first round of talks, held on Thursday (May 14), was described by both sides as “productive.”
Speaking to Fox News following the initial discussions, Trump claimed that Beijing had agreed to halt exports of military equipment to Iran. He also said China had agreed to begin importing fuel oil from the United States.
Trump further stated that China supports keeping the strategically important Strait of Hormuz open and operational, calling it a positive development for global trade and energy supply chains.
According to a report by South China Morning Post, the summit has created a significant opportunity for both countries to address ongoing commercial and political disputes amid rising global economic uncertainty.
