New York, Apr 13 (V7N) — Protests erupted in Manhattan on Monday as demonstrators opposed US arms sales to Israel, leading to clashes with police and the arrest of at least 100 people.
Around 300 protesters staged a sit-in outside the offices of US Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, demanding an end to further US arms transfers to Israel.
The demonstrators called for a shift in government spending priorities, urging increased investment in human development instead of military aid. They also pressed lawmakers to support a possible Senate vote aimed at blocking additional arms sales.
Tensions escalated when New York police ordered the protesters to clear the area. When the demonstrators refused to comply, clashes broke out, resulting in mass arrests. Authorities confirmed that at least 100 people were detained during the incident.
The protest is part of a growing wave of demonstrations in the United States calling for a reassessment of US foreign military assistance policies.
