Islamabad, Apr 11 (V7N) – A high-profile meeting between the United States and Iran is set to take place today in Islamabad, with both sides arriving amid heightened security.
The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, reached Islamabad on Friday night. US representatives, including Vice President JD Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, are also en route to participate in the talks.
Security has been significantly tightened in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of what is being described as a historic meeting. The discussions will be mediated by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir.
Ahead of the meeting, Ghalibaf stated that Iran is ready for a deal but remains cautious due to a lack of trust in the US. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he had wished Vice President Vance well before the talks and reiterated that any agreement must ensure Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. He also claimed that he believes a form of regime change has already occurred in Iran.
Vice President Vance, who is leading the US negotiating team, said that Washington is prepared to engage constructively if Iran demonstrates sincerity in the negotiations.
Global attention is now focused on Islamabad, as the outcome of these talks could play a decisive role in shaping future relations and stability in the Middle East.
