Islamabad, Feb 27 (V7N) — Pakistan’s military claimed significant casualties among Taliban forces following ongoing attacks across the border with Afghanistan, intensifying the conflict between the two neighbors.
According to Pakistan’s military spokesman, 228 Taliban fighters were killed and 314 others wounded in the operation. The statement also said that 74 Taliban posts were destroyed and 18 people were arrested. On the Pakistani side, 27 soldiers were reportedly injured.
Earlier Friday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s spokesperson Musharraf Zaidi had claimed that 133 Taliban fighters were killed and more than 200 injured.
However, the Taliban government has strongly disputed these figures. In a statement, they reported only 8 fighters killed and 11 wounded, highlighting a significant discrepancy between the two sides’ claims.
The conflict escalated after cross-border attacks by both nations, with Pakistan accusing the Taliban government of supporting terrorism and proxy groups targeting Pakistan. The situation remains tense, and independent verification of casualties remains challenging.
