Washington, Feb 25 (V7N)- Former US President Donald Trump's global tariff has officially come into effect at a rate of 10 percent. The tariff started at 12:01 a.m. local time on Tuesday (Feb 24).

This follows a US Supreme Court ruling last Friday that declared Trump's previous tariffs on various countries invalid. The Court stated that the president must seek Congress approval to implement such measures.

A few hours after the ruling, the Trump administration announced a 10 percent tariff on all countries worldwide. Plans were later revealed to raise the rate to 15 percent, but the lower rate took effect as scheduled on Tuesday.

Trump first imposed this tariff using a 1978 law, which allows the US president to take such action temporarily in cases deemed necessary for national interests.

This move is expected to impact international trade and import prices globally, with economists warning of possible ripple effects on markets and bilateral trade relations.
