Kyiv, Feb 05 (V7N) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that around 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the nearly four-year-long war with Russia.

Zelensky made the statement in an interview with French television, which was reported by Sky News on Wednesday (February 4).

According to the Ukrainian president, the casualty figure includes not only members of the regular armed forces but also soldiers recruited during the war. He added that the government has been unable to trace a significant number of fighters, raising concerns that many of them may also have been killed in combat.

Earlier, in February last year, Zelensky had stated that approximately 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died in the conflict, indicating a sharp increase in casualties since then.

Zelensky warned that the continuation of the war and Russia’s actions would have serious consequences for Moscow, although he did not elaborate further.

The Russia–Ukraine war, which began in February 2022, has resulted in massive human, military, and economic losses, with both sides continuing to suffer heavy casualties.
