Kyiv, October 13 (V7N) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has assured that his country would use long-range Tomahawk missiles exclusively against Russian military targets, amid growing concerns from Moscow over a potential U.S. arms supply to Ukraine.

Speaking on Sunday (October 12), Zelensky emphasized that any weapons provided by Washington would be used for “purely defensive purposes.” He made the remarks following a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, which he described as “very productive.”

President Trump later told reporters that he was considering providing Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles, though he wanted a clearer understanding of Ukraine’s operational plans before making a final decision.

The Tomahawk missile, with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, would significantly expand Ukraine’s striking capability — potentially allowing it to reach deep inside Russian territory. The Kremlin has expressed serious concern over this possibility.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “The situation has now reached a dramatic level, as tensions are rising on all sides. Russia cannot ignore the fact that some versions of the missile can carry nuclear warheads.”

Meanwhile, Zelensky highlighted the scale of recent Russian attacks, stating that in the past week alone, Russia launched more than 3,100 drones, 92 missiles, and 1,360 glide bombs against Ukrainian targets. He said these assaults had caused severe damage to energy infrastructure and led to widespread power outages across several regions.
