Islamabad, Oct 12 (V7N) – Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have escalated sharply following a series of clashes between Pakistani troops and Taliban fighters, coinciding with the Taliban Foreign Minister’s visit to India. Both sides claim heavy losses, though no independent confirmation of casualties has been released.

According to reports, intense fighting occurred overnight on Saturday (October 11) in multiple border areas including Angur Adda, Bajaur, Dir, Chitral, and Kurram. Pakistani authorities claim that several Afghan military posts were destroyed and at least 19 more posts were taken over by Taliban fighters, who allegedly used these positions to launch attacks on Pakistan.

Pakistan launched a cross-border counterattack, employing artillery, tanks, bullets, and drones to target what it described as terrorist hideouts. Officials emphasized that the strikes were aimed at military installations and not civilians. Islamabad alleges that the Taliban initiated the attacks without provocation, claiming they facilitated the entry of Indian-backed terrorists into Pakistan.

The Taliban, in turn, said their actions were retaliatory, responding to continuous Pakistani airstrikes and border violations. Both sides have issued conflicting reports of significant losses inflicted on the opponent.

The current flare-up follows earlier Pakistani airstrikes on the Afghan capital, Kabul, this week. Pakistan also accuses India of supporting Afghanistan in carrying out terrorist activities targeting Pakistan.

The situation remains tense, and the risk of further escalation is high as both sides reinforce their positions along the border.
