Washington, Aug 10 (V7N) – A diplomatic dispute has surfaced over the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled for August 15 in Alaska. European leaders are urgently seeking clarity on whether Ukraine will be part of the discussions, emphasizing that Kyiv’s inclusion is crucial.

On Saturday (August 9), European officials met US Vice President JD Vance in a surprise gathering in rural England to convey their concerns. They expressed support for Trump’s diplomatic efforts but insisted that a ceasefire must precede peace talks and that Ukraine should actively participate in negotiations.

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not been officially confirmed to attend the Trump-Putin meeting, US officials have not completely ruled out the possibility of his involvement. According to CNN, any decision regarding Zelensky’s participation is expected after the bilateral talks between Trump and Putin, which are currently the primary focus.

The rapid organization of the meeting has left many details unsettled. A White House official noted that Trump remains optimistic about a potential three-way meeting but is currently planning a bilateral session at Putin’s request.

Since Trump’s social media announcement of the meeting on August 8, diplomatic efforts have intensified to secure the support of US allies. However, Trump’s statement made no mention of Ukraine’s participation.

European leaders and President Zelensky continue to emphasize that Kyiv must be involved in any dialogue aimed at ending the war, a stance they reiterated during discussions with the US delegation at the UK Foreign Secretary’s residence.
