Miami, Sep 06 (V7N)- Brill Mbolo marked his MLS debut in style, scoring a late penalty to help Atlanta United secure a 2-2 draw against Inter Miami.
The two teams faced off at Miami's home ground, Nu Stadium, early Sunday (September 6).
Atlanta twice came from behind to earn a point. In the 87th minute, Frisco Caicedo brought down Mbolo inside the penalty area, giving Atlanta a crucial spot-kick. The Swiss forward calmly converted to level the score.
Miami took the lead in the 32nd minute when Casemiro headed home a corner delivered by Lionel Messi.
Atlanta responded shortly afterward. While attempting to clear a cross from Tomas Jacob, Casemiro collided with Miguel Almiron, allowing the ball to fall to the Atlanta player, who made no mistake from close range.
Miami regained the advantage just before halftime. Luis Suarez weaved past several defenders inside the box before finishing to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.
Atlanta had an opportunity to equalize in the second half after a VAR review in the 73rd minute awarded them a penalty following Casemiro's foul on Almiron. However, Almiron's effort was comfortably saved by Miami goalkeeper Dane St. Clair.
Mbolo eventually made no mistake from Atlanta's second penalty, rescuing a valuable point on his debut.
Miami pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but Atlanta's defense held firm. Goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos denied Messi, while Paulo Diaz made a crucial goal-line clearance to preserve the draw.
Atlanta United will next face Orlando City at home at 5:30 am Bangladesh time on Thursday. Inter Miami will host Chicago at 6:30 am the same day.
