Seattle, Jun 20 (V7N) – Hosts the United States booked their place in the knockout stage after defeating Australia 2-0 in their second group-stage match on Friday at Lumen Field in Seattle.

The victory marked the Americans' second consecutive win of the tournament, ensuring qualification for the next round with one group match still to play.

Both goals came in the first half, with Australia conceding an early own goal before Alex Freeman doubled the lead just before halftime.

The United States took the lead in the 11th minute when Australian defender Cameron Burgess accidentally turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a dangerous cross from Folarin Balogun inside the six-yard box.

The hosts extended their advantage in the 43rd minute. Following a free kick, Sergiño Dest's effort from the edge of the penalty area deflected into the path of Alex Freeman, who headed home to make it 2-0 before the break.

Australia showed greater urgency after halftime and pushed forward in search of a comeback. However, the American defense remained well organized and denied the visitors any clear scoring opportunities.

The United States also created several chances in the second half but failed to add to their tally. Nevertheless, the two first-half goals proved sufficient as the hosts secured a comfortable 2-0 victory.

The United States will conclude their Group Stage campaign against Turkey next Friday, while Australia will face Paraguay in their final group match. Both fixtures are scheduled to kick off at 8:00 a.m. Bangladesh time.
