Kingstown, St Vincent, Dec 19, ( V7N) – Jaker Ali Anik’s career-best 72* off 41 balls powered Bangladesh to a commanding 80-run victory over West Indies, sealing a historic 3-0 series sweep in the T20 Internationals.
Jaker’s explosive knock, which included three fours and six towering sixes, propelled Bangladesh to 189-7, a total that proved insurmountable as West Indies were skittled for just 109 in 16.4 overs.
Jaker’s Heroics Turn the Tide
Coming in at No.5 with Bangladesh at 102-4 in 12.1 overs, Jaker single-handedly turned the innings around. His onslaught ensured Bangladesh added 87 runs in the final eight overs, surpassing expectations of a modest total. Parvez Hossain Emon contributed 39 off 21 balls at the top, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with a steady 29.
West Indies’ bowlers, led by Roston Chase, showed some fight in the middle overs but failed to contain Jaker’s late fireworks.
Bangladesh’s bowlers continued their stellar form, dismantling West Indies’ batting lineup on a pitch seemingly tailor-made for power-hitters.
Taskin Ahmed (2-18) and Mahedi Hasan (2-15) struck early, removing Brandon King and Justin Greaves.
Rishad Hossain’s leg-spin (3-21) tore through the middle order, supported by Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who dismissed top-scorer Romario Shepherd (33).
Taskin wrapped up the innings, rattling Obed McCoy’s stumps.
Despite their reputation as power-hitters, West Indies failed to counter Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack, collapsing in just 16.4 overs.
Stand-In Captain Liton Das Praises Bowlers
Bangladesh captain Liton Das hailed his bowlers for their superb performances throughout the series.
"We knew if we scored well, our bowling unit could defend it. The way our bowlers showed character was amazing," Liton said.
He credited the team’s freedom to play without pressure, attributing the series success to head coach Phil Simmons and the supportive coaching staff.
West Indies captain Rovman Powell acknowledged his team’s shortcomings, particularly in bowling and top-order batting.
"We lost wickets in clusters, and it’s hard to recover from that. Bangladesh played fantastic cricket after the ODI series," Powell remarked, promising to address the issues before their next fixtures in 2025.
