Washington, Oct 27 (V7N)- US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has risen by one percentage point to 32 percent, according to a Reuters-Ipsos poll released on Wednesday, following a record low last week ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

The poll, which concluded on Monday (October 26), found that Democrats had 47 percent support in congressional elections, compared with 36 percent for Republicans, giving Democrats an 11-percentage-point lead. When undecided voters were taken into account, Democratic support rose to 50 percent, while Republican support stood at 41 percent.

Trump’s Republican Party is seeking to retain its majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the midterm elections. Losing control of either chamber could make it more difficult for the President to advance his legislative agenda during the remainder of his term.

The survey found that 73 percent of voters believed the cost of living in the United States was moving in the wrong direction. Inflation and rising fuel prices have emerged as major issues in the election campaign.

Regarding economic management, 37 percent of respondents said Democrats were better at handling the economy, compared with 33 percent who favoured Republicans.

Democratic voters also showed greater enthusiasm for the upcoming elections. According to the poll, 46 percent of Democratic voters said they were very enthusiastic about the midterms, compared with 30 percent of Republican voters.

The Reuters-Ipsos online poll surveyed 1,679 US adults, including 1,280 registered voters. The margin of error was two percentage points for all adults and three percentage points for registered voters.
