Beijing, May 14 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping began high-level talks in Beijing on Thursday morning local time, with trade issues taking center stage, according to CNN.
The meeting is expected to focus primarily on trade relations between the world’s two largest economies. Analysts believe the United States could seek agreements on several key trade issues with its main rival, China.
In return, the Chinese government is expected to push for reduced US restrictions on semiconductor exports to the Chinese market. Discussions are also expected to cover technology cooperation, trade policies, and the Taiwan issue.
Following the formal talks, Trump and Xi are scheduled to visit the historic Temple of Heaven in Beijing before attending a state banquet later in the day.
President Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday after a nine-year gap and received a special welcome at the airport.
Several prominent US business leaders also accompanied the US delegation, including Tim Cook, Elon Musk, and Larry Fink, along with executives from multiple American companies.
