Washington, Aug 19 (V7N) – At an extraordinary summit in the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump pledged that the United States would assist in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security as part of any peace deal to end Russia’s war. However, the specifics of this assistance remain unclear.

The meeting brought together Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a coalition of European leaders—namely, those from Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Finland, along with senior figures from NATO and the European Commission—to demonstrate unified support for Kyiv.
Trump emphasized that Europe would serve as the "first line of defense," but reaffirmed that the U.S. would be involved.

This summit followed Trump's recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, along with a tense Oval Office encounter with Zelenskyy earlier this year. Despite these challenges, the tone of Monday’s discussions appeared notably more collaborative.

Both leaders expressed hope for a trilateral meeting—Trump suggested involving Putin as a next step toward resolving territorial disputes and finalizing a peace agreement.

Zelenskyy described the bilateral talks as “very good,” highlighting the critical importance of U.S. security guarantees. He emphasized that Ukraine's future depends on these assurances.

While a peace deal is not yet imminent, the renewed cooperation between the U.S., Ukraine, and its European partners signifies growing momentum for a diplomatic resolution—though much hinges on how tangible and enforceable the security guarantees will be.
