Berlin, Aug 14 (V7N) – Germany has approved the export of a new submarine to Israel, reigniting criticism amid the ongoing Gaza conflict.

According to Turkish news agency Anadolu, the purchase agreement for the submarine was signed in 2012. The country’s Federal Security Council authorized the export in 2023, with final approval granted recently. The submarine is valued at approximately USD 585.8 million, with Germany contributing €135 million towards the cost.

The decision comes just weeks after Berlin announced it would suspend exports of weapons that could be used in Israel’s Gaza operations. News of the submarine approval has drawn widespread backlash from rights groups and political critics, who argue the move undermines Germany’s stated position on the conflict.
