London, July 26 (V7N) – Nearly 220 British lawmakers from nine political parties, including a majority of Labour MPs, have signed a letter urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to officially recognize Palestine as a state. The letter emphasizes that while the UK alone cannot establish a free and independent Palestinian state, such recognition would have a significant international impact.
The appeal comes amid increasing diplomatic momentum, following France’s announcement that it plans to recognize Palestine within the coming months.
In response, Prime Minister Starmer held an emergency phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reiterating that any recognition of Palestine must align with a broader strategy to achieve a two-state solution.
The letter puts considerable pressure on the UK government to take a firm stance on the Palestinian issue as international debate intensifies.
