Rampal, Bagerhat, July 4 (V7N) — Free eye care services were provided to 5,000 patients in Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat District. The initiative was organized by the Dhaka Mega City Lions Club, in collaboration with Drishti Unnayan Sangstha and managed by Lion Doctor Sheikh Faridul Islam.
The free eye care camp was inaugurated on Friday morning at the field of Shrifoltola Pilot Secondary School in Rampal by Additional DIG of Khulna Range, Md. Belayet Hossain. The event was presided over by Lion Doctor Sheikh Faridul Islam, and Barrister Sheikh Zakir Hossain attended as a special guest.
The camp operated from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., during which specialist doctors screened patients for cataract surgery. Selected cataract patients will be taken to Dhaka for lens implantation surgery. Patients with minor eye problems received free preliminary treatment and medicines, while free eyeglasses were distributed to elderly patients suffering from reduced vision.
Lion Doctor Sheikh Faridul Islam stated that, motivated by social responsibility, the organization has been providing free eye care services under the motto “Prevent Blindness” since 2009. Over this period, more than 100,000 patients have benefited from the program, with approximately 6,500 cataract surgeries performed. On this occasion, 5,000 patients were served, and selected patients requiring cataract and retinal surgeries will be treated in Dhaka.
He emphasized the importance of caring for underprivileged people who have contributed significantly to society, especially during their youth. “Eyes are invaluable assets. Good eyesight in old age allows individuals to live independently without being a burden,” he said. He expressed gratitude towards his friends and family for their continuous encouragement in this work.
