Cardiff, Sep 17 (V7N)- England produced another dominant performance to defeat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the second T20 International at Sophia Gardens on Thursday, securing the three-match series with one match to spare.
Sri Lanka were restricted to 145 for 9 in their 20 overs after England's bowlers recovered from a promising start by the visitors. Liam Dawson was the standout performer, claiming 3 wickets for 32 runs and earning Player of the Match honors.
Sri Lanka made a brisk start, reaching 55 without loss in the opening five overs. However, Dawson's introduction helped England regain control, while Sonny Baker also impressed with a disciplined spell. Sri Lanka struggled to maintain their scoring rate and finished with a modest total.
England then raced to 146 for 4 in just 12.1 overs, with 47 balls remaining. Tom Banton led the chase with an unbeaten 52 off 24 balls, including four sixes, while Jos Buttler contributed 30 from 16 deliveries.
Buttler also reached a major milestone during his innings, becoming the first player to score 15,000 runs in T20 cricket. Harry Brook added a quick 23 from just eight balls, including three sixes, before being dismissed.
The victory marked England's 14th consecutive T20 win over Sri Lanka. England now lead the three-match series 2-0, with the final match scheduled to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday.
Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka acknowledged that his side needs significant improvement after England's commanding performance.
