Chattogram, Apr 27 (V7N)- Bangladesh will begin their T20 campaign against New Zealand today, with the first match of the series scheduled to start at 2:00 pm at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.
Led by captain Liton Kumar Das, the Tigers are aiming to continue their momentum by securing a T20 series victory following their success in the ODI format. The team management is expected to retain the same batting lineup for the opening match.
However, Bangladesh’s pace attack will see some changes, with key bowlers Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Nahid Rana being rested. In their absence, options such as Shakib Al Hasan, Ripon Mondal, or Mohammad Saifuddin could feature in the playing XI.
On the other hand, New Zealand, led by Tom Latham, will also be looking to clinch the T20 trophy before returning home.
Historically, Bangladesh have struggled against New Zealand in the shortest format. In 20 T20 encounters so far, the Tigers have managed just four wins, while New Zealand have claimed victory in 15 matches, with one match ending without a result.
This series marks Bangladesh’s return to T20 cricket after a gap of 146 days, signaling a fresh start for the team. The Tigers played 30 T20 matches between May and December last year, achieving notable series wins against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
With home advantage on their side, Bangladesh will aim to maintain that consistency and improve their record against the Kiwis in this series opener.
