Sydney, June 14 (V7N) — Babar Azam, Pakistan’s former captain and one of the leading batsmen in world cricket, is set to make his debut in Australia’s premier franchise T20 tournament, the Big Bash League (BBL), signing with Sydney Sixers.

With Babar gradually being sidelined from Pakistan’s T20 setup—missing several recent series—this new opportunity in Australia marks a significant step in his T20 career. The upcoming season will be his first-ever appearance in the BBL.

The Sydney Sixers squad already features cricket stars like Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood, adding extra excitement for Babar. Expressing his enthusiasm, Babar said, “I am very excited to join the Sydney Sixers, where my favorite batsman Steve Smith and one of the best bowlers in the world, Josh Hazlewood, are also playing. I can’t wait to share the dressing room with them.”

The 30-year-old batter added, “Playing on Australian soil has always been enjoyable for me, but getting the chance to play in the Big Bash is an even bigger achievement. I’m really looking forward to this experience.”

Babar Azam’s T20 record speaks for itself. He has scored over 4,000 runs in 128 international T20Is, averaging close to 40, with 3 centuries and a personal best of 122 runs. The prolific right-hander also boasts experience in other global T20 leagues, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

With Babar joining their ranks, the Sydney Sixers will be aiming to bolster their batting lineup as they prepare for the upcoming BBL season.
