Jun 09 (V7N) — Italy faced a heavy 3-0 defeat against Norway in their opening match of the European qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Saturday, putting the four-time world champions’ road to the tournament in jeopardy.

Adding to the setback, team coach Luciano Spalletti announced his resignation prior to the match against Moldova. Spalletti, who took over the Italian national team in 2023 replacing Roberto Mancini, recorded 11 wins, 6 draws, and 6 losses during his tenure.

Although he has stepped down, Spalletti is expected to manage Italy for the final time in tomorrow’s match against Moldova.
