Uppiya, May 16 (V7N) – Bangladesh has advanced to the final of the SAFF Under-19 Championship 2024 after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Nepal in the first semi-final held on Friday (May 16) in Uppiya, India.
After a goalless first half, Bangladesh struck twice in quick succession in the second half. In the 73rd minute, captain Nazmul Huda converted a corner from Faisal, assisted by Ashikur Rahman, to give Bangladesh a 1-0 lead. Just seven minutes later, Nazmul found the net again, this time finishing off a long ball from Manik, doubling the lead.
Nepal managed to pull one back in the 86th minute, sparking a wave of attacks in the final moments. The referee added seven minutes of injury time, but the Bangladesh defense held strong to seal the victory.
Bangladesh will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and Maldives, which is scheduled for 8 PM tonight. The final will take place on Sunday, May 18, where Bangladesh will fight for the championship title.
This marks a significant achievement for Bangladesh’s youth football, showcasing talent, resilience, and tactical growth on the regional stage.
