Dhaka, Aug 24 (V7N)- Although six months may not be enough to fully evaluate a government, the BNP government has failed during its first 180 days, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has said.
He made the remarks at a press conference held at the NCP’s temporary central office in Bangla Motor on Monday, where the party highlighted what it described as the BNP government’s failures during its first 180 days in office.
Nahid Islam accused the government of inefficiency and a lack of planning, saying the country was gradually moving back toward a fascist political structure.
He criticized the government over the energy crisis, load shedding, rising electricity prices and its handling of the measles outbreak. He also accused the government of attempting to shift responsibility for various failures onto the previous interim government.
The NCP convener said the democratic environment is shrinking due to several factors, including a lack of public confidence in investigations into disappearances, the absence of an effective human rights commission and alleged harassment of journalists.
Nahid Islam further claimed that the government had failed to establish law and order across the country.
He warned that any attempt to return to what he described as the politics of the past would trigger a massive mass movement.
The opposition chief whip also called for the implementation of the verdict against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and urged the government to work toward improving Bangladesh-India relations.
