Dhaka, Jun 14 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is a liberal political party and not a regimental organization.
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday morning to mark the martyrdom anniversary of former President Ziaur Rahman.
Speaking at the event, Fakhrul said that if Ziaur Rahman had lived for another decade, Bangladesh would have advanced much further on the path of development and progress. He criticized efforts by political opponents to portray Ziaur Rahman negatively, stating that the late president was not only a statesman but also a national hero.
The BNP leader further said that the ideals and leadership qualities of Ziaur Rahman are reflected in BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He expressed optimism that Bangladesh would move forward toward a new future under Tarique Rahman's guidance and leadership.
The discussion meeting was attended by BNP leaders, activists, and supporters, who paid tribute to the party's founder and highlighted his contributions to the country's politics and development.
The event formed part of BNP's commemorative programs marking the anniversary of Ziaur Rahman's death and focused on his political legacy and influence on contemporary Bangladeshi politics.
