Dhaka, Feb 04 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Wednesday alleged that a religiously-based political party is displaying fascist and violent behavior through its actions.

He made the remarks while speaking at a meeting of the BNP Central Election Management Committee with the Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED) in Gulshan on Wednesday afternoon.

Rizvi said caution must be exercised so that fascism does not re-emerge in new forms. Referring to a recent incident involving a candidate at the cantonment, he said such indecent conduct reflects a distorted mentality and goes beyond the acceptable limits of political criticism. “This behavior shows a tendency toward violence and intolerance,” he added.

Speaking at the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said that while every party will try to win the election, it must not be done at the cost of morality. “Victory should be achieved without harming anyone. Unfortunately, some are trying to win through immoral and irrational means,” he said.

Nazrul Islam Khan urged the media to remain vigilant and responsible, stressing the need to identify who is truly accountable for any wrongdoing. “The opportunity that has come today after so much bloodshed should not be misused immorally by any party or individual,” he said.

He also emphasized the role of the media in ensuring fair and free elections, adding that BNP would instruct its leaders and activists to cooperate with media professionals in carrying out their duties.
