Dhaka, Oct 25 (V7N) — BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to travel to Saudi Arabia next month with his family to perform the holy Umrah, confirmed Major General (retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar, Security Advisor to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Speaking to Jamuna Television on Sunday (October 25), Fazle Elahi said, “Tarique Rahman will go to Saudi Arabia around the 20th or 21st of next month and will return to London after performing Umrah.”
When asked about Tarique Rahman’s return to Bangladesh, the former army officer said, “He will take a flight to Dhaka in late November or early December after returning to London. However, the specific date has not been finalized yet.”
A special security committee has been formed by the BNP to oversee preparations for Tarique Rahman’s return. A member of the committee told Jamuna Television that “arrangements are being made for his possible return on November 23, in coordination with the government.”
The committee member also mentioned that bulletproof vehicles are expected to arrive from Japan ahead of his return.
Upon his arrival, Tarique Rahman is expected to stay at House No. 196 on Gulshan-2 Avenue Road, which was originally allotted to his mother, Begum Khaleda Zia, following the death of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in 1981.
