Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that an elected government is essential to move the country forward, alleging that some political parties are trying to delay the upcoming national elections.
He made the remarks while unveiling a book titled “Mahakal Mahanayak Shaheed Zia” at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Dhaka on Thursday (October 23).
Fakhrul said, “BNP was born through reforms. It was President Ziaur Rahman who introduced multi-party democracy in Bangladesh. Everything good that has been achieved in this country has come through the BNP. Yet, people talk as if BNP is a villain.”
He added that Ziaur Rahman possessed a rare ability to inspire people and played a vital role in nation-building. “The Awami League has tried to erase his name from history, but it is impossible to remove someone like Ziaur Rahman. History has already recorded his contributions,” Fakhrul said.
He further stated that Tarique Rahman is following the path shown by Ziaur Rahman, continuing his legacy and vision for Bangladesh.
