Dhaka, Oct 05 (V7N) – UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka Gwen Lewis held a meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan at 11 am on Sunday (October 5).
Following the meeting, Gwen Lewis described the Rohingya situation as “very deplorable”, emphasizing that Bangladesh requires substantial international cooperation to address the ongoing humanitarian challenge.
Speaking to the media, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said the discussion focused on the repatriation of Rohingyas and the need for enhanced foreign assistance. Gwen Lewis reaffirmed the United Nations’ continued support in this regard.
Also present at the meeting were Huma Khan, Senior Human Rights Advisor at the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Tarique Rahman’s International Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, and BNP Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid.
