Thakurgaon, Sep 08 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the party has been waging a movement for democratic rights for the past 15 years with the goal of transforming Bangladesh into a truly democratic state.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the district BNP biennial conference in Thakurgaon on Monday.
“BNP brought the country out of a one-party regime and introduced multi-party democracy. Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, democracy will be strengthened further,” Fakhrul said. He also urged leaders and activists to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the long struggle for the welfare of the nation.
Fakhrul stressed that BNP has not deviated from its democratic path over the last 15 years. The party has already announced 31 points aimed at building the country’s political structure and economy on stronger foundations.
Meanwhile, the biennial conference in Thakurgaon began after eight years, with the objective of selecting new leadership and revitalizing organizational strength. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to address the gathering virtually as the chief guest.
