Chattogram, July 21 (V7N) – National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has said that Chittagong is the gateway to Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty, as Major Ziaur Rahman declared the country’s independence from Kalurghat in Chittagong during the Liberation War of 1971.
He made the remarks while addressing a rally at Sholashahar Biplob Udyan in Chittagong city on Sunday night, following the party’s ‘July Padayatra’ program.
“Chittagong is symbolic of our freedom. But there are conspiracies against it. Evil forces have set their eyes on this city,” said Nahid Islam. “We want to make it clear—if there is any conspiracy against Chittagong, resistance will rise across Bangladesh. This Chittagong must be rebuilt.”
Referring to recent political unrest, he added, “Our chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari exposed the truth in Cox’s Bazar. But we’re facing obstruction in different areas. We were attacked in Banshkhali and Chakaria. Let it be known—we won’t be silenced.”
Earlier, thousands of NCP supporters joined the rally in processions from different parts of the city. Among those present were NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain, southern region chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam, and chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, along with other central party leaders.
