Dhaka, July 19, (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is holding its much-anticipated national rally today at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. The party has undertaken extensive preparations to ensure the success of the program, with a large number of leaders, activists, and supporters arriving in Dhaka from different parts of the country.
Since early Saturday morning (July 19), Suhrawardy Udyan and its surrounding areas—including Shahbagh, Kakrail, Matsabhaban, TSC, and Doel Chattar—have seen an increasing presence of Jamaat members.
Field observations indicate that supporters are entering the venue in small groups, some holding placards and banners bearing the party’s election symbol—the scales. Most attendees were seen wearing traditional Punjabi, though some were dressed in white shirts with slogans such as “The first vote of the youth, against extortionists” and “Vote with scales.”
To facilitate the arrival of its members, Jamaat has arranged three pairs of special trains, operating on the Rajshahi-Dhaka-Rajshahi, Sirajganj-Dhaka-Sirajganj, and Mymensingh-Dhaka-Mymensingh routes.
According to party sources, the rally began with the recitation of the Quran from 10:00 AM, followed by Hamd and Naat performances. The main program is scheduled to commence at 2:00 PM.
Authorities have tightened security in and around Suhrawardy Udyan, as the event marks Jamaat’s largest public gathering in recent times, amid renewed political activity ahead of the next national election.
