Dhaka, July 06 (V7N) — Professor Mahmuda Begum, mother of Daily Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman, has passed away. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.

She breathed her last at 5:15 am on Sunday (July 6) at Insaf Barakah Kidney Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar. She was 87 and had been suffering from various age-related ailments.

Professor Mahmuda Begum leaves behind her only son Mahmudur Rahman, daughter-in-law Firoza Mahmud, younger sister Monira Mahmud, and numerous admirers and former students.

A dedicated educationist, she served as a Bengali teacher at several renowned institutions, including Chittagong Government Commerce College, Comilla Victoria College, and Titumir College. She was also Vice Chairman of the Daily Amar Desh Publications.

Her janaza (funeral prayer) will be held after Zohar prayers today at Gulshan Azad Mosque. She will be laid to rest at Jurain Graveyard, next to her father’s grave.

Several prominent figures visited Mahmudur Rahman’s residence in Gulshan to express condolences, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Interim Government’s Industrial Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, former minister Major (retd.) Kamrul Islam, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Riazul Islam Riju, Manikganj BNP convener Afroza Khanam Rita, businessman Gias Uddin Al Mamun, and Shamim Sayedee, son of Delwar Hossain Sayedee.
