Chattogram, May 31 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has asserted that no national goal can be achieved without a government elected by the people. He also criticized political statements made abroad, saying that issues concerning the country should be discussed domestically.
Khasru made these remarks while addressing a memorial meeting in observance of the 44th martyrdom anniversary of President Ziaur Rahman on Friday (May 30) at the LGED Auditorium in Muradpur, Chattogram. The program was organized by the Chattogram Metropolitan BNP and presided over by Ershad Ullah, the city unit’s convener.
"Ziaur Rahman United a Nation Post-Independence"
In his speech, Amir Khasru emphasized the importance of internal reform within the party and society:
“If we are to follow the path of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, we must first change our mindset and bring discipline into our lives. The expectations of the people have changed. Ziaur Rahman was a true reformer. After independence, he gave our nation the global standing it deserved.”
He said Ziaur Rahman awakened a sense of patriotism and unity, bringing together people from different religions under one national identity and steering the country toward development-oriented politics.
“Ziaur Rahman involved citizens in production and development. He gave people a reason to dream of a better economy and a prosperous nation,” Khasru added.
Criticism of Foreign Statements
Amir Khasru also appeared to criticize recent remarks by the Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus made during his visit to Japan, stating:
“There’s no point in making statements from abroad about who wants votes and who doesn’t. These issues must be discussed and resolved within our own borders.”
Call to Uphold Zia’s Ideals
In closing, the senior BNP leader urged his party’s rank and file to fully embrace the values and vision of Ziaur Rahman:
“If the people elect us, we will be ready to deliver from day one. Our philosophy is based on the ideals of Ziaur Rahman, and every party leader and worker must commit to those principles.”
The event is part of a week-long observance across the country by BNP and its affiliates in remembrance of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, who was assassinated at Chittagong Circuit House on May 30, 1981.
