Rajshahi, Sept 4 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee Member and MP from Dhaka-3 constituency Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today visited the showroom of Rajshahi Silk Factory, drawn by the heritage and quality of Rajshahi silk, and purchased silk fabrics worth around Tk 50,000 for his family members.
During the visit, he looked around the showroom and inspected various types of silk fabrics before making the purchase.
Rajshahi silk has long maintained its reputation as one of the country's traditional and globally recognized silk products. Owing to its superior quality, aesthetic designs and distinctive characteristics, the fabric enjoys considerable demand among buyers at home and abroad.
Officials concerned said Rajshahi silk is popular among prominent personalities and distinguished individuals of the country, as well as domestic and foreign buyers.
They viewed Gayeshwar Chandra Roy's visit to the showroom and purchase of silk fabrics for his family as a positive development, saying such interest among prominent individuals could help promote and expand the traditional silk industry of Rajshahi.
They also expressed hope that increased interest in Rajshahi silk would contribute to the development and expansion of the sector.
Rajshahi silk, traditionally produced in the Rajshahi region of Bangladesh, is known for its high quality and intricate designs. The silk industry has been a significant part of the region's economy and cultural heritage for centuries, providing employment to thousands of artisans and weavers. The government has been implementing various initiatives to revive and modernise the silk sector, including providing training, financial support and market access to silk farmers and weavers. A modern Rajshahi Silk Factory was established by the then BNP government, with significant financial and technical assistance from the Japanese government, to produce high-quality silk fabrics and other silk products.
