DHAKA, May 19, (V7N) – The National Legal Helpline Call Centre (toll-free-16430), operating under The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), has provided legal advice services to a total of 187,369 people.
A report published on the NLASO website revealed that this significant number of individuals received legal aid assistance through the hotline from 2013 to April 2025.
Initially, the National Legal Aid Services Organization's services were launched at the district level. Subsequently, the service expanded to include the Supreme Court, the toll-free helpline 16430, the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons nationwide.
Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, informed BSS that the Workers' Legal Assistance Cell at Legal Aid commenced its operations in 2013. "The National Helpline Call Center toll-free number was launched in 2013. Since then, 187,369 people have received legal advice services until April 2025," he added.
The report also indicated that an additional 17,328 people received legal advice services prior to the establishment of the National Helpline Call Center, which was specifically designed to provide information services via the hotline.
These services are provided at government expense under the 'Legal Aid Act' with the objective of ensuring access to justice for financially disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals in the country.
The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are overseen by the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The government designated April 28, 2013, as 'National Legal Aid Day'. This day is commemorated annually with significant enthusiasm to promote the government's legal aid programs and uphold the right to justice for all citizens.
