Chapainawabganj, Jan 09 (V7N)- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered two illegal foreign-made one-shooter guns and nine rounds of ammunition during a raid at the Azmatpur border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. The seized weapons were reportedly smuggled from India.
The recovery was disclosed at a press conference held at the headquarters of Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB) on Friday afternoon.
According to BGB officials, acting on intelligence information, a patrol team from Azmatpur Border Outpost (BOP) conducted a raid on Thursday night around 9:30 pm at a mango orchard in Unishbighi village under Shahabajpur Union. During the operation, the abandoned firearms and ammunition were recovered.
BGB officials said that border surveillance has been intensified ahead of the upcoming national elections to prevent smuggling and illegal activities. The process of handing over the recovered weapons and ammunition to Shibganj Police Station is currently underway.
Mahananda Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Golam Kibria said that special operations would continue along the border to curb arms trafficking and other smuggling activities.
