Khagrachari, Oct 03 (V7N) – Section 144 remains in effect in Khagrachari Sadar and Guimara following recent violence, although public life has largely returned to normal.

On Friday, being a weekend holiday, movement of people and vehicles in the town was limited, but most shops and businesses reopened, signaling a gradual return to daily activities.

Security has been heightened across the district with the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police jointly maintaining order. Multiple check posts have been set up, and search operations are ongoing.

Police have already filed two separate cases in Guimara over incidents of violence, including violations of Section 144, assault, arson, and the killing of three people. Another case was registered in Khagrachari Sadar in connection with recent unrest.

The district has been tense since the rape of a Marma teenager, which triggered widespread protests and violence. The army stated that there had been attempts to exploit the incident to create unrest in the hills.
