Mongla, Aug 28 (V7N) — A stolen police-issued firearm was recovered during a special operation conducted by the Chattogram Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) in Mongla, leading to the arrest of one individual. The weapon, identified as a China-made 7.62 model pistol, had previously been reported missing during a police station robbery.
According to Mongla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Anisur Rahman, quoting officials from the Detective Branch, the operation was carried out on Wednesday at approximately 11:30 AM under the leadership of Inspector Md. Ramiz Uddin of Chattogram DB Police. Acting on intelligence, the DB team launched a targeted raid in front of the Mongla Upazila Health Complex, located in Ward 7 of the Mongla Port Municipality.
During the raid, law enforcement officers detained a man identified as Kamal, the son of Abdul Motaleb Hawladar of Malgazi village in Chandpai Union under Mongla Upazila.
Following his arrest, Kamal reportedly confessed to possessing the stolen firearm. Based on the information he provided, police conducted a search at his residence in Malgazi village, where they successfully recovered the China 7.62 pistol. Authorities confirmed that the weapon is part of a cache of arms previously looted from a police station.
The arrested suspect and the recovered firearm have been transferred to Chattogram for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Law enforcement officials did not disclose the specific station from which the weapon had been stolen, nor did they confirm whether Kamal was directly involved in the original theft. However, authorities stated that the recovery is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to trace missing police arms and crack down on illegal firearm possession in the country.
The Chattogram Metropolitan Police have reaffirmed their commitment to retrieving all stolen weapons and prosecuting those responsible, regardless of their location.
